The news of the sudden demise of former Attorney General and Buruli County member of parliament, Hon. Peter Nyombi in the late evening hours of Sunday 7th October 2018 took majority of Ugandans by shock.
This is because there had been no reported illness since and therefore his death was totally abrupt.
This morning, he was recognized when the nation acknowledged a moment of silence in his honor at the National Prayer Breakfast that took place at Hotel Africana. Condolence messages have swept social media platforms from prominent people.
Nyombi, who was 64 at the time of death. He graduated with a Bachelors degree of Law from Makerere University. He served the nation as a State Attorney, Director Legal in the Inspector General of Government’s office and Attorney General among others. As a politician, he also represented the then Buruli County of Nakasongola district in parliament.
Family members said that he had been very well and available at a family meeting in Kampala before he complained of a ‘small illness’ that he later succumbed to at SAS Clinic on Bombo road.
We have since learnt that he had hypertension and succumbed to heart failure at the said clinic in Kampala on Sunday evening.
A father of four, the fallen lawyer was the brother of Prof. John Musisi Senyonyi, the vice-chancellor of Uganda Christian University (UCU) and Ambassador Henry Mayega. He had retired active politics and retreated to private legal practice by the time of his sudden death.
Nyombi was born to a teacher (Eriakimu Kajja) and his wife on April 23, 1954. He went to Nakasongola Primary School and then King’s College Budo for his secondary education. He then joined Makerere University and graduated in 1976 with a Bachelors degree of Law. The following year, Nyombi received a diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC).
