Makerere University Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof Barnabas Nawangwe in a late night post on Wednesday ( 17th June, 2020) lashed Next Media’s NBS TV for spreading misleading information on the status of the university in regard to the recent alleged COVID-19 false positives from its lab.
This followed a meeting between the University VC and Ministry of Health officials, which was held at the Office of the Prime Minister earlier, the same day, to rectify and settle the confusion which was triggered by President Museveni’s remarks on the variation of the test results taken at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) and the University lab, last week.
“During today’s meeting at the office of the Prime Minister, the media was informed that the issue of the alleged false test results had been rectified and the Makerere lab cleared to continue testing for coronavirus. I am surprised that NBS TV continues pushing misrepresentation of facts” Prof Nawangwe said, in response to NBS TV’s post which incorrectly pointed out that the Makerere VC had confirmed and apologized for the false COVID-19 test results at the lab.

Makerere University laboratory was cleared to continue testing for the deadly coronavirus and testing is still ongoing. Uganda’s total confirmed COVID-19 cases are 732 with 409 recoveries and ZERO deaths registered as at 11:00AM, Wednesday 17th June 2020.
