Makerere University’s 87th Guild President, Shamim Nambassa, came out to disclose the source of her campaign funding, making a shocking revelation that she got herself into a debt of 18 million to facilitate the process.
This, she said during NTV’s early morning talk show ‘Mwazuse Mutya’ on Monday 14th March, 2022.
“I was the only girl in the primaries during the campaigns. After the campaigns, I had a debt of 18 million because most of the money was borrowed in my name.” Nambassa said while appearing on NTV’s Mwasuze Mutya.
Makerere university students have come out to troll their guild president with some branding her an empathy-seeker. One student (identity withheld) said that someone from a humble background (as that Shamim Nambassa claims) cannot take the risk of borrowing 18 million for there is no assurance that she will pay the loan incase she lost.
“This (borrowing 18 million) justifies her being ironic…a student having capacity to borrow 18 million just to invest in politics means more than her coming from an extremely rich family. Imagine if she lost?” One student said.
Another student (identity withheld) said that Nambassa was so lucky not to afford a ‘G8’ Nabisunsa as thousands of Ugandans can’t afford Kololo S.S a school within the means of a common man and should thus stop whining about not affording Nabisunsa.
“She is just another serial liar trying to use self-pity to attract empathy and what better way than when you are live on national TV,” another student commented.
Shamim Nambassa invested large chunks of money to facilitate her guild campaigns through which many saw her as a potential candidate, voting her into office in the end.
However, her (Nambassa’s) revelation regarding the source of her campaign funds has left many wondering where Makerere university’s former academic minister cum guild president was able to get this huge funding with such a humble background as hers with some questioning whether the loans came in security-free.
