On Friday 22nd November 2019, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) held its 15th Annual Research Dissemination Conference. The conference happened at Igongo Cultural Centre in Biharwe Mbarara District for the whole day.
It was organized by MUST’s Directorate of Research and Graduate Training under the theme “Collaborative Transformational Research for Sustainable Development” which also had 10 Sub-themes.
The Opening session of the conference was presided over by the Chairperson of the University Council, Dr. Warren Namara. The Keynote speaker of the day was Prof. Charles Kwesiga, the Executive Director of the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI).
Over 100 papers were presented by researchers from different institutions and the overall winner Ms Ester from the faculty of Medicine was awarded US $400 and first and second runner ups went away with US $300 and US $150 respectively. At this conference undergraduate students from various faculties were invited and given a chance to present at the conference through their representative Mukasa Fazil.
The conference was closed by the university vice chancellor Prof Celestino Obua who was also the mentor of Ms Ester, the overall researcher.
“I would like to thank everyone who is with us today at our 15th Annual research dissemination conference, and I want to appreciate the researchers for their work they presented to us today you have proved that you are really from MUST, because a university which doesn’t embrace research is not a real university.” Prof Obua said.
“I would also like to encourage all different stake holders at MUST to always publish their research papers on different platforms so that we can achieve a better position in relation to our research work.” He concluded.
Other guest speakers included Prof. John Chinyere Aguiyi, Dean Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Plateau State Nigeria and Dr. Lawrence Eron, a Senior Lecturer in Special Needs and Inclusive Education at Kyambogo.
On 18th November 2019, the MUST community cleaned Mbarara city starting from the High street in preparation of the above community.
