Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA) is in the process of ushering in the 33rd National Students Council.
The outgoing leadership has today January 24, 2023 held a televised Presidential debate for the aspirants on UBC.
The outgoing UNSA Speaker Agaba Kenneth said that the major role of the association is to give a platform to every student to choose their leaders depending on how they want them to perform.
The discussion was headlined by Muni University Guild President, a one Acuga Barbra Carolyn who faced off with fellow leaders that included Nasasira Bill Clinton (Mbarara University of Science & Technology), Mirembe Rachel Sserwada (Uganda Christian University), Mutabazi Elijah (St. Lawrence University) and Birungi Sharifah (Islamic University in Uganda).
The quintet expressed profoundness on ideas relating to students’ representation as each candidate argued their preferred mode of management.
Acuga was critical of administrations in institutions that often neglect concerns of learners. She suggested continuous discussions with students who at times have solutions to their grievances.
UCU’s Mirembe Rachel reechoed on the need to extend consultations whilst making decisions that concern students.
“Inclusiveness within student leadership, how about we have decisions made after consulting with the district representatives, leaders in institutions!! It’s with this that any agenda pushed by UNSA can receive their support,” she remarked.
UNSA Presidential debate was graced by the company of the following moderators;
- Kamakune .B. Gumusiriza – Graduate Assistant Tutor Cavendish Uganda 31st UNSA Deputy Speaker.
- Kidega Moses – 31st National affairs secretary- UNSA (19/20) and a Law student at Makerere University.
- Aine Peter – a 2-time Debate champion: writing our world 2017 and NDC 2018. National best speaker- Wrting Our World Debate Tournament 2019
The students’ governing body will choose the next President who will take on the mantle from IUIU’s Welunga Yusuf and his team (attached below).
