On the night of Sunday 8th May, a male-like figure was spotted within Africa hall past midnight, wrapped in a towel. The Africa hall night watchmen got curious and decided to investigate.
His investigation revealed that indeed the masculine figure was a man planning on spending the night in one of the rooms. The fellow claimed it was too late for him to leave without risking limb, life and property to the lumpens that prowl Makerere after dusk.
The askari quietly left the boy after ascertaining the room of occupation. The night guest spent the night probably reciting his bible and doing all stuff that good friends do behind the privacy of a closed-door. The askari quietly informed Dr. Stella Ameno; the warden of the unwanted guest in her hall.
What however the fellow was doing wrapped in a towel passed midnight in open contravention of a hall rule against hosting non residents past 11;30pm is inexplicable.
The next morning, a 600k fine was imposed on the poor three year Makerere medical school couple. In what was a rather turn of events, the warden gave the fellows an ultimatum, dismissal from hall or a 600k fine; 300k per head!
A hall minister was asked to witness the fact that a male had successfully yet illegally spent the night.
This is one of the many instances of unfortunate males getting caught spending nights in Africa. There are claims from the Warden’s office of a section of girls abusing substance! “Now Africa hall ladies are known for their modesty as much as the other girl’s halls (Mary Stuart/ Complex) are known for their er er insatiable horn? We wouldn’t want to know what transpires in the other halls where morality is hardly regulated,” opined Tomanya Paul, a Livingstone hall elder.
He quickly added that University students are mature enough. He however readily said he wouldn’t think twice about spending the night if given opportunity.
A notice from the no-nonsense warden Stella Ameno apparently accuses MOST Africa hall residents of hosting men and abusing drugs. The dire punitive measures seem bent on kicking philandering, fornication and substance abuse out of Africa.
Independent inquiry however reveals that the anti- men sleeping over policies aren’t as stringent as they appear.
“Matter of fact loads of cars are seen in the park yard at night. A few male friends certainly spend the night the unfortunate male was unlucky to get caught,” reveals an Africa resident on grounds of anonymity.
The Hall culture Minister, a one Shamsa however reiterates that her girls don’t do weed nor do they host men overnight! She says just the crimes of an individual shouldn’t be a benchmark for the entire hall.
