Africa Renewal University gets charter

Africa Renewal University after a long while, finally gets a charter from National Council for Higher Education.

This came through in a letter dated 13th March 2024,signed by Prof. Mary J.N. Okwakol the Executive Director of National Council for Higher Education, addressed to the Vice Chancellor of Africa Renewal University.

“I am pleased to inform you that following your application for grant of a charter, H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda has approved and granted Africa Renewal University a Charter.”

The long journey of being charted for the university begun way back in 2019, when the applications was forwarded to National Council of Higher Education. This was followed by a number of meetings & inspection visits said Dr. Byamukama Vincent the current Vice chancellor of the university.

“We are deeply honoured to receive this charter from the government of Uganda. This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to providing transformative education that equips individuals with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to address the challenges facing Uganda and Africa today. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence in education and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and communities “

The National Council for Higher Education is mandated to regulate the establishment and management of higher education institutions as well as regulating the quality of higher education, equating qualifications and advising Government on higher education matters.

The charter bestowed upon a university by the Ugandan Government through NCHE solidifies the institution’s status as a recognized hub of academic excellence and innovation. This accreditation emphasizes Africa Renewal University’s dedication to advancing education and empowering communities in Uganda.

For a University to be charted in Uganda, it ought to fulfill a number of stringent requirements in the areas ofacademic, administrative, and supportive services, such aspossession of lecture halls, libraries, and laboratories. Also ought to have their operational procedures, bylaws, and regulations, course programs, curricula, student assessment procedures, and examination regulations. Records indicate that over 31 universities are currently operating under provisional certificates as they strive to attain charter status

Africa Renewal University, a university a private Christian University founded in 2007 as Gaba Bible; a theologicalinstitute for equipping Christian leaders. It was provisionally licensed in 2013 and in 2014 rebranded to itscurrent name, diversifying to offering even non- theological courses. The University now has over 1500 students where in its recent graduation, last year 2023, graduated over 500 students.

The University is located in Wakiso Buloba, 20km along  Kampala – Mityana Road.
