African women unite to empower the youth

The African Women and Youth conference whose theme is “THE UNIFICATION OF AFRICA THROUGH THE EMANCIPATION AND LEADERSHIP OF WOMEN AND YOUTH” took place last week at the main hall in the main building of Makerere University.
The conference discussed topics such as; the importance of Women’s leadership in building the African Women’s Movement, Integration for Africa market, the relationship between the Unification of states and self-reliance among others.

There was a lot of enthusiasm and excitement among key note speakers as they mentioned that they were positive the improvements of women and youths is growing. Among key speakers included Prof. Mwanbusya, David Mafabi, Hon. Betty Amongi, Dr. Miriam Matembe among others.
Dance performances and breaks cooled down the main hall as hot topics and brilliant ideas were presented to the audience.

Youths were also represented with facts such as; The weakness of being dependent is that we become beggars, feel inferior, and loose our dignity. The strength of being self reliant is that we develop enough to solve our problems and some day even help others solve theirs.

Hon. Betty Amongi, the Oyam South Representative in Parliament said, “it is through conferences that people have unified and pushed for reforms.”
The conference created awareness on the importance of women and youths leadership, self reliance in the context of African rising and Pan- Africanism relevance in Uganda and Africa as a whole. David Mafabi engaged the audience by asking for comments and feedback. He posed a question and was quoted saying, “We are human beings and are Africans.”

Okwir Rwaboni, the executive director, CCG and the African Women’s Charity representative threw more light to the theme and objectives of the conference after which closing marks were given.
The initiative being driven is one vital one meant to elevate women and the young into taking part in relevant decisions and as well take up prominent leadership roles in Uganda and the rest of the world
