Kyaaka South Member of Parliament and lawyer, Hon. Jackson Kafuuzi has slammed Makerere lecturers of law over a petition they signed yesterday demanding that parliament rescinds their position as regards the age limit motion and debate.
The NRM MP, who is also pro-the removal of Art. 102 (b) from the constitution, while appearing on NBS Television’s Morning breakfast show accused the teachers of Law in Uganda for giving arguments completely devoid of any law and relying on morality.
“When you don’t know the law, you argue facts. When you are at a loss for both, you argue morality”, Hon. Kafuuzi said.
At the same show, Prof. David Bakibinga was present to defend the law dons’ stand on the matter.
He maintained that the events in parliament on 27th of September were in gross violation of the law as regards the separation of powers and the parliamentary rules of procedure on suspension of members of the house.
Hon. Kafuuzi also ridiculed Ugandans who think that the ammendment of the age limit seeks to benefit President Museveni alone and said that they didnt even have the president in mind at the start.
“Initially, our concern was why there is a limit for Ugandans below 35 to stand for LCV Chairpersons at the district levels. But we realised we cannot lift the lower cap and ignore the upper age cap”, he said.
Prof. Bakibinga maintained that there is a constitutional crisis in the country since there has never been a peaceful transfer of power and the only chance at experiencing that is being eroded.
Hon. Kafuuzi also challenged the professors to come up with a scientific discovery that proves that a person beyond the age of 75 is not capable of running for president.
