In a letter dated September 29th, the Principal of the Makerere University School of Law has revealed more details regarding the reopening for finalists as well as the continuation of online lectures for other students.
The Principal’s letter further explained that continuing students who will not be able to attend online lectures should write to them explaining why they will not be able, adding that they should expect no punishment.
Finalists, who will resume classes on October 19th will be under maximum supervision to see that they observe guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health. According to the letter, all students will sit for their exams physically.
“LLB 1-LLB Ill Students who are unable to attend online classes should formally write to the Principal (not later than 9th October 2020) indicating the reasons. You will not be penalized in anyway. You will be given opportunity to complete the respective courses when next offered.” The letter reads in part.
“The Registrar and the respective lecturers will be getting in touch with you regarding further details of how the online classes will be conducted. All examinations shall be by physical attendance. Details will be provided in the due course.” The letter reads further.
However, it remains unclear why the Makerere Law School has decided to open before October 15th, a day suggested by the President.
More details in the letter indicate that teaching of LLB I – LLB III students shall be online and it will start on 5th October 2020 and run up to 20, November 2020. Examinations will commence on 25, November 2020 and the classes shall follow the timetable issued before the COVID- 19 University closure.
During his recent address regarding COVID-19, President Museveni encouraged online lectures for continuing students while finalists were allowed to resume studies starting October 15th with maximum Standard Operating Procedures – SOPs.
