During a meeting, between the Forum for Academic Staff of Public Universities in Uganda (FASPU) and Vice Chancellors of public universities at Kyambogo University on Friday, Brian Muyomba, the chairperson of Makerere University Business School Academic Staff Association revealed that he is tired of the endless negotiations and all they want to see is money.

MUBS opened for on-campus studies for freshers on 1st March but information coming in indicates that students are just roaming around a week after reporting.

The dejected vice chancellors, who claim that universities are struggling to run business following the continued strike further appealed to the government to help resolve the strike by academic staff, explaining that it has paralyzed business in the higher institutions of learning.

During the meeting, Prof Eli Katunguka, the Vice Chancellor Kyambogo University, disclosed that the meeting resolved to establish a committee comprising of five vice chancellors and FASPU representatives to negotiate with the government on how to resolve their salary enhancement issue.

Prof George Openjuru, the vice chancellor of Gulu University, Dr. Simon Kawuma, the chairperson of Mbarara University of Science and Technology Academic Staff Association- MUSTASA were among the officials that graced the meeting.

The angry lecturers demand that the government releases UGX 29.24 billion to effect the enhancement of salaries for lecturers in all public universities as directed by  President Museveni in 2015.
