Prisca Amongin has been declared as the first directly elected female Guild president of Uganda Christian University (UCU), after winning the election with a landslide victory.
In a tight race that had only two strong ladies, about 2,375 students turned up to cast their ballots.
After close to 6 hours of tallying process, Amongin emerged as the winner after attaining 1462 votes, making her the first directly elected female Guild president of UCU.
Moreen Akatukunda, her rival, got 729 of the votes with a difference of 733 between the two candidates. However, 184 of the votes were declared invalid.
Amongin emerged the victor in nearly every faculty save for Atukunda’s own law faculty where she proved a worthy adversary, garnering 252 against 208.
Supporters of both candidates displayed a variety of emotions. “Team Prisca” as they called themselves, celebrated their candidate’s victory irritating “Team Moreen” with a couple of mocking statements like “RIP Moreen” , and “I really believe Moreen voted for Prisca”. The other team could not even wait till the end of the process, disappointed by the performance of their candidate.
