Andrew Mwenda, Uganda’s veteran journalist and political pundit revealed that most of Uganda’s richest men are not degree holders and can’t even speak English fluently.
While speaking to graduates at Uganda Pentecostal University’s 17th graduation ceremony where he was a guest speaker, Mwenda said he is close to most of the rich men in the country and that most of them have no degrees.
Mwenda boldly stated that only three of Uganda’s richest men have university degrees and among these is Hammis Kiggundu the owner of Ham enterprise and Charles Mbiire whom he said is only lucky to be coming from a wealthy family.
“None of them (rich men) can speak English but they employ all other graduates of Uganda.” Mwenda said.
Mentioning names such as Bosco Muwonge, Wavaah Munno, Matovu Younger, Sudhir, Mukwano among others, Andrew Mwenda advised Uganda Pentecostal University graduates not to keep their hands clean but rather work hard to make it in life.
“When you don’t have a university degree in Uganda, you know that no government entity or formal organisation can employ you. You are forced to work hard. Don’t think you should keep your hands only clean,” Mwenda advised.
446 graduated during Uganda Pentecostal University’s 17th graduation ceremony at Muchwa Campus in Fort Portal. Only 5 were in position to attain first class honours degrees.
Uganda Pentecostal University started as a law school in 2001 and currently offering different academic disciplines.
Many university graduates continue to struggle hunting for jobs after graduation and like Mwenda noted, most graduates want to keep their hands clean because their degrees give them hope that they can be easily employed anywhere hence neglecting other petty jobs.
