Gulu University has sought for the services of the anti riot police and crime preventers at the university’s main campus in Laroo Division, Gulu University, to keep any possible chaos at bay as the students began their end of semester examinations.
The administration took the decision to beef-up the security after the students protested last week burning down the university’s main hall over delayed release of examination results. Angry students at the Faculty of Education and Humanities last week started the chaos and this called for stringent and tight rules to be put in place.
Gulu University students were subjected to security checks by both the university security personnel and police at the campus main gate on Monday as they kick started their examinations.
This was aimed at curbing down any possible chaos that may be planned after administration was tipped off that the students could be planning more violence.
The university is still investigating what brought about the strike from the students at the education and humanities faculty hence suspending over 1000 students. The university still maintains that those that were suspended would only sit for their examination after the investigations are complete.
The Gulu District police commander, Mr Martin Okoyo maintains that the police shall ensure that no chaos erupts because other students are disgruntled and wanted to do exams yet they have been stopped, university main campus.
