In a ceremony held at Uganda Christian University’s Nkoyoyo Hall today, The Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu was officially installed as the university’s 4th Chancellor. Kaziimba, who also doubles as the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda replaces Rev. Stanley Ntagali who served as Chancellor for seven years.
It should be recalled that Ntagali retired officially on 1st March 2020 as the Archbishop and his Chancellor position has automatically been taken over by Kaziimba.
The ceremony, which was presided over by Rev. Alfred Olwa as the installing officer was also graced by top UCU leaders including the university’s Guild President Timothy Kadaga, the Vice Chancellor Dr. John Senyonyi, among others.
While speaking at the ceremony, Kadaga revealed how proud they (students) are to have a man like Kaziimba as their leader. He also called upon UCU students to prevent themselves from Coronavirus throughout the 32-day forced holiday.
“Despite these hard times your grace, we are here to witness this wonderful occasion not because it’s a must but we are very lucky to have such a personality lead us. We are living in a very dangerous situation that we didn’t prepare for but a situation that we need to embrace.” Kadaga said before telling students to prevent themselves from the Coronavirus pandemic.
Also present at the ceremony was Dr. John Senyonyi who congratulated Kaziimba for becoming UCU’s Chancellor. Senyonyi further introduced top UCU staff leaders as well as student leaders present.
“Allow me to congratulate our fourth chancellor The Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu who has assumed the office of the 4th Chancellor of Ugandan Christian University today.” Senyonyi said before introducing top UCU staff leaders to the newly installed Chancellor.
Senyonyi is also expected to retire as UCU’s Vice-Chancellor and plans to select a new one are underway spearheaded by the University Council.
