Uganda Christian University (UCU) will on the 20th March 2020 install Archbishop Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu as the new Chancellor of the university in an invite only ceremony that will take place at the main university premises in Mukono.
The Office of the Chancellor is the top most office at the Christian based institution and according to the university website, the office of the Chancellor “presides over all ceremonial assemblies of the university and in the name of the university confers degrees and other academic titles and distinctions at UCU”.
The announcement for the installation was made available to the university community during the Tuesday weekly prayers at the university. It comes at a time after the replacement of The Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali as the Archbishop and head of the Church of Uganda by Rt. Rev. Kazimba. The Archbishop is the automatic Chancellor according to the university charter.
From what Campus Bee has been informed, the installation was earlier on supposed to be an open ceremony with the attendance of the entire university community, however because of the COVID – 19 pandemic, the guests at the installation will be in a small invite only ceremony in an effort to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
However, it is uncertain what will happen on Friday as scheduled or the programme will be altered given the yesterday’s presidential directive to close schools and universities.
