Blessed Murungi, a second year student of SWASA has in the history of UCU become the first ever female Guild President. She won after beating her only opponent Namara Keith Kyaruzi, a third year Law student. She got 813 to 449 votes. 210 were the number of invalid votes.
Fellow students have since taken to social media to congratulate Murungi and to advise her on how best she can lead the Mukono based university. Chrysostom Akwech, the UCU guild president 2011/2012 said:
“Your Excellency Blessed Murungi, Your are a Pace setter. Give it your Best as your serve the UCU community. Build on what your predecessors left and remember to have the electorates at heart. Your win should always remind you to never give up. The Journey as President may not be simple but remember to ask for God’s wisdom when making a decisions. Work with your team that worked with you throughout the campaigns, disagreements will come but seek to resolve them taking the lead in conflict resolution. Find fulfillment in living a servant-hood leadership style. Blessings to you.”
