Makerere University senior lecturer Dr Danson Kahyana was on Tuesday night (April 26) attacked by merciless robbers who left him seriously bruised.
Dr. Kahyana is still recovering from serious injuries inflicted on him by unknown assailants who attacked him on Tuesday around Buwate as he headed home from a burial vigil in Seeta.
Pictures of the badly injured lecturer made rounds on social media where he has a reputation for being a government critic.
The Literature guru has since received medical attention that aided him to partially recover, enough to narrate a few details from the awful incident to NTV journalist, Walter Mwesigye.
Whereas many point the attack to organized crime targeting his writings, Dr. Kahyana has come out to reveal that the incident was a simple robbery that could have happened to anyone at that time, in the same place. He does not believe the attack on him had was related to his writing.
“I stopped writing on Facebook for my own protection ever since Rukirabashaija (Kakwenza) was tortured,” he narrated.
However, Dr Kahanya admitted that writers in the country are limited by fear of expression, given the recent torture-related incidents of renown critics.
“We (writers) know in that Uganda it is dangerous to write,” Dr Kahanya added.
