Over 400 students graduated from St Lawrence University at its 12th graduation ceremony held on Thursday at the main campus in Rubaga. Students graduated from different fields on diploma, certificate and degree levels.
Aujo Sharon was among the graduands who was rewarded because of her hard work after scoping a first class degree from guidance and counseling with a first CGPA of 4.70.
When Aujo’s named was read on the list of first-class graduands, her mother Ms. Adeke Martha helplessly broke into tears of happiness because of her daughter’s success which brought the entire graduation ceremony on a standstill.
Aujo in an interview revealed that her mum had labored so much to get her tuition despite being a single mum and the covid-19 effects, her mother didn’t give up on her.
Aujo narrated the full as follows;
2 days ago was my graduation and I managed to get a 1st class honors and also the best female student of the academic year! To say I’m happy is the an understatement, but before me is the real HERO;
She is my loving single mother, Sargent Adeke Martha who made this thing such a big deal unintentionally through her naturally expressed excitement and pride that eventually caught the public’s attention to the extent of crossing over to neighboring countries like Kenya.
She is a single mother of five amazing children, me being the third born. The first two children also graduated successfully from Kyambogo University around five years ago.
My mom has gone through every honorable struggle to see us through school, we all know that the salary of a police officer is insufficient but she did every other hustle possible alongside her police job to make the fees available. She reared all kinds of birds and pigs and sold to supplement her meagre police salary. For me it was a miracle from God!
After S.6, I had to sit two years at home without joining university because she had reached the end of her rope. My dream of studying to become the best NEWS ANCHOR in Uganda was shuttered. She was chocking in debt from loans she took to see my 2 older siblings graduate and she begged me to hold on and have hope in her hustle.
Our father left at a very early age in a very bitter separation characterized by some aspects if domestic violence, witchcraft but through it all her mind was focused on starting her independent life and her motto was and still is “My children are my life” translated in luganda as “abana bange bwebulamu bwange”.
Afande Adeke Martha hope I made you proud and the sky is the limit. We made it! Continue praying for me so that I can get a good job and build you a big house.
Dedicated to all single mothers and all parents, don’t give up on your children. God is in control.
Yours truly,
Aujo sharon, (first class degree holder, counseling psychology.)
Victory belongs to Jesus Christ my Savior.
Congratulations Sharon
