The long wait to finally get a legit Vice Chancellor for the Banda based Kyambogo university seems to be over but then again it seems to be a tight race too. Kyambogo University’s acting vice chancellor, Prof Eli Katunguka, is set to face-off with Makerere University Business School’s Prof Geoffrey Bakunda before Senate for the institution’s top job of Vice-chancellor.
After vigorous interviews were conducted in a bid to settle for the best candidate, two contenders; Prof Geoffrey Bakunda and Prof Eli Katunguka emerged the best picks for the top job. The other candidates who had expressed interest when the job was advertised in February were Prof Aaron Wanyama, a former Dean at Kyambogo University’s faculty of science, who was dropped after last week’s interviews, while his three other colleagues Prof George Byarugaba-Bazirake (Dean Faculty of science), Prof Charles Twesigye (Biology department) and Busoga University vice chancellor Prof David Kibikyo, did not make it to the shortlist because they didn’t have a minimum of 10 years experience in top management.
The Senate is expected to recommend three candidates for the job to the University Council, the university’s highest decision making organ as the next vice chancellor for a five-year term renewable. The battle between the two has intensified and by the end of this week, Kyambogo University will have a new VC.
