Makerere University students have vowed to file a case against local artiste Bebe Cool for failing to perform even after he was paid all the performance fees. Mc John Paul, the Events & Corporate Relations Manager, Makerere University Guild exclusively revealed plans of suing the Gagamel president if he does not refund the money [shs2.5 million] he was paid. The 42-year-old singer was supposed to perform for his campus fan base on Friday at the Mitchelex Bazaar.
Below is Mc John Paul’s full statement;
I was the official Mc and for entirely the Mitchellex Bazzar, I announced Bebe cool since 16th August and you all know what it means wen students sacrifice Money to pay just to watch none but him. All what transpired that day. The massive rain, Power getting off till 9pm and students getting patient can describe the situation if at any time what they had paid for would not come to pass.
Performances started late at around 11pm,and I communicated to the promoter that lets have Bebe Cool perform at Mid Night coz my Programme was tight and I drove the programme by the time it clocked Midnight, I was only awaiting for Bebe cool to get on Stage. I kept the crowd calm even when they were demanding for him perform because they were getting impatient.
By 1:00 He arrives, I ask the O.C to provide security as he claimed there is no enough security for him. Three police patrols were present. Bebe Cool drives his Car to the entrance but makes a U-turn half his journey. He requests that his balance be brought to him. He drives a distance of metres just from the main entrance, initially he was given shs1 million and his balance 1.5m was taken to him hence totaling to 2.5millions,all over a sudden he shocks us when he hastily drives off the grounds. I request the Patrol to follow him as he had requested for security thinking he was securing afar distance parking.
The Patrol follows Bebe cool’s Car as he drove off through the Main Gate.
If he claims there were threats of students beating him up, question is, why? What did he do wrong?
Were the students waiting for a fight or his performance? Why in the other case did he ask for the balance if he knew he was not going to get on stage?
We have opened up cases in over 5 Police stations; even at the headquarters of Uganda Police some concerned parties are aware.
As the community of Makerere University we don’t tolerate this Hooliganism as he claimed and On Monday [today] if Bebe Cool doesn’t refund the Money, we shall be forced to take up other legal matters because a lot of damages arose where we even had to cancel Bobi wine and Grace Nakimera who were meant to perform the next day because students got rowdy.
But Why steal Students’ Money? More so your Fan Base? Whyyyyyyyyyyy??? As a Bebe Cool fan am disappointed.
