Bishop Stuart University (BSU), based in Kakoba, Mbarara made it a must to carry out a week which they call BSU Week to exhibit what they have as a university, carryout open debates, give back to the community and also take part in the changing of the community for the betterment of everyone.
This year, they moved along the theme “The Lord searches every heart…,” and “Higher education and the private sector preparing human resource capital for the 4th industrial revolution (4IR).”
The week started on Sunday 8th March with a church service and General Elly Tumwine headed the plenary session of the night. They were joined by Mr. Fagil Mandy on the following day (Monday) who talked about economic how liberalization has squandered the education sector in Uganda.
They were then joined by other influential people in the region for the past four days who included their own, Rev. Can. James Rutaraka who took part in the awarding of the best university public speakers in a competition that was held in the same time frame.
Yesterday, the university kicked off a 2-day medical camp in Kijungu, Nyamityobora in Mbarara town that is mainly to benefit those who cant access quality medication at a free cost. Among other services to be offered include blood sugar screening, hypertension screening, hepatitis B screening, deworming, HIV testing and counseling anx cervical cancer screening.
On the same day, the university spearheaded by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maudaa Kamatenesi gave back to the community through community service that included cleaning Mbarara town and painting Zebra crossings that were washed away by the rain. The grand event will be held today at the university grounds in Kakoba.
