Residents of Katete cell in Mbarara Municipality woke up on Tuesday to cries for help from a young lady in her early twenties after her lover reportedly, locked the single room they were renting before setting it on fire.
The boyfriend Eric Atushemeza 28, and a former employee of Uganda Breweries Limited died instantly while girlfriend Penninah Natamba, a student at Bishop Stuart University died moments after arrival at Mbarara Hospital. Ms Natamba was set to graduate on Friday this week.
Locals say the two lovers developed misunderstandings when Mr. Atushemeza learnt that his girlfriend that he was helping pay tuition at the university was moving out with other men.
According to ChimReports, Atushemeza on Tuesday early morning- at around 4am, was seen removing his property from the house. When he returned, with his girlfriend inside, he locked the house and next thing the neighbours heard was cries of help from a young lady.
Police managed to break the house, however, it was too late to save the lives.
The Late Penniaba Natamba from Sheema Municipality, is a daughter to Tumusiime Fred Katabazi, a teacher at Kiziba primary school in Kagango division.
According to police spokesperson Samson Kasasira, Ms Natamba had just completed her studies and was waiting to graduate on Friday this week.
