The Blockchain Club of Uganda, a Near Protocol (near.org) Guild has pledged to set up a Blockchain Developers Hub in Kampala Uganda as an infrastructure of innovation to enable creators, communities, and markets to drive a more open, interconnected and consumer-empowered world.
Near Protocol Guilds are ecosystem communities that are aimed at raising Near Protocol awareness across the globe. They do this through community building, introducing developers to Near Protocol and incentivizing Startups.
According to the Cryptopedia, NEAR Protocol is a decentralized application (dApp) platform and Ethereum competitor that focuses on developer and user-friendliness. Its native NEAR tokens are used to pay for transaction fees and storage on the Near crypto platform. NEAR is a Proof-of-Stake blockchain that uses sharding technology to achieve scalability.
It has incorporated features like human-readable account names as opposed to only cryptographic wallet addresses, and the ability for new users to interact with dApps and smart contracts without requiring a wallet at all. Projects building on NEAR include Mintbase, a non-fungible token (NFT) minting platform, and Flux, a protocol that allows developers to create markets based on assets, commodities, real-world events, and more.
The pledge to set up the Blockchain Developers Hub in Kampala was made on 10th October, 2021, at a conference organized by Blockchain Club of Uganda at Food Science Technology Conference Hall in Makerere University. The pledge was made by the Club Chairperson Mr. Moses Mucunguzi.
He said that the Club hopes to realize their goal of setting up the Blockchain Developers Hub within a year with support from NEAR Protocol.
Mucunguzi said that the club also is looking forward to partnering with strong Blockchain organizations to spread blockchain awareness across the country. He said that this would help in setting up formidable Blockchain infrastructure to foster Decentralized Finance (DeFi), NFT’s and Privacy.
The event was also graced by Mr. Davis Ojok, the United Africa Blockchain Association (UABA) representative for Uganda. Ojok applauded the Blockchain Club of Uganda for their initiative to build a strong blockchain ecosystem in Uganda. He also hinted that a partnership between UABA and the Blockchain club of Uganda would do a great job in realizing the ultimate goal of a strong blockchain community in Uganda.
The event was attended by other Blockchain Communities such as the Makerere University Google Developer Students’ Club, Polkadot, Chainlink, Umbrella Network and Astar Network.
