Following the cries of Boda Doda cyclists due to the Presidential ban imposed on them from carrying passengers, a technical team from Makerere University in conjunction with Ministry of Works and Transport is inspecting the safety shield invented by boda boda cyclists to enable them (cyclists) resume normal operations.
This safety shield was invented as a COVID-19 safety measure that prevents physical contact between the boda boda cyclist and passenger, which would see cyclists resume ferrying people amid the pandemic.

In a step-by-step procedure, the technical team is inspecting to see how workable the safety shield is and how it will follow the Ministry of Health guidelines so that cyclists can be given a go-ahead for normal operation.
It should be put in mind that, a team of boda boda cyclists last week petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga to look into their concerns, saying that transporting cargo alone cannot sustain their livelihoods, and she promised to advise government accordingly.
The boda boda cyclists have, for close to four months , been off the road under normal operations, which leaves their financial status hanging in balance if this goes on longer.
