It hurts that it always has to be bad news every time I am writing about Kyambogo University. Quick judgements follow suit of how this site is MAK based and is stereotyping KYU but honestly what would you term a bazaar which has gone 3days without power, has no remarkable performing artistes and runs till 8pm, isn’t that a flop.
My heart is now bleeding for the poor investors whose predecessors never alarmed them about this business dark spot. Talk of Pop Corn machines, Ice Cream machines, food fryers, drink and food refrigerators all have suffered losses in the past 3 days on top of operating on candles for window shoppers. As if this was not the last kick in the tired camel’s back, the bazaar has been in a mourning state too for these three days. Besides the sound of a few scored pool table balls dropping in the table, the bazaar grounds have been in a moment of silence for all these days.
Rumor falling unto our ears indicates that a few students who invested their tuition and hard earned money in the bazaar are requesting for a one week extension hoping for a brighter business days.
Students Decry ‘Boring’ Bazaar
In a recent interaction with Campus Bee Kyambogo correspondent, Phillips Ayazika, the students of the Banda based campus referred to their own bazaar as an “open market”.
“OMG I can’t believe it’s a Kyambogo Bazaar even??♂. Oh no I have no kind words I’ll just go to MUK on Friday. Why do these guys keep organising fake things all in the name of the event having no sponsors at all. It’s an equivalent of a local open market in Banda,” Sam Okello, a disappointed Kyu lad told Campus Bee.
When we contacted the Guild President Joseph Ochieng, he said that it’s not the guild office to blame but rather the top administration that solely took over the bidding process.
“We were excluded from the bidding process and just given a company to deal with. We had no opportunity to assess the companies we are dealing with so we equally saw these mistakes coming. The guild office will work to ensure such things don’t happen again during other events like the freshers ball. We promise to be fully involved in the preparations from day one,” the determined Ochieng told our reporter.
For now, the Kyambogo bazaar remains deserted as all students throng the Mak bazaar.
