Kato’s interview on Election Day
Who is Kato Paul?
Kato Paul is a second year student at Makerere University doing a Bachelors of Arts in Education majoring in History and Geography.
I’ve been a leader the whole of my school life- notably I was head prefect Lubiri SS 2013-2014, Debate Club president same year,l and Secretary General, Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) 2013-2014. In O-level I was chairperson candidates in Fort portal SS and Head Boy in P6 St. Theresa Primary School.
What inspired you to join politics?
My Dad has been a great inspiration to my political life, by the time I came to be a standing person, He was an RC III for 10 years by that time Resistance Council Chairman , which is now referred to as Local council chairman LCIII. He was Saza chief, LC V councilor he used to move along with me, take me to his meetings to see and interact with his fellow politicians so I looked up to him and I admired him and I really took up the interest in politics.
How does it feel to be FDC flag bearer?
Being flag bearer of FDC, a party I have always loved and supported myself is quite outstanding and I am honored. It is incredible. I think I’ll try my level best to move this party a step forward and become guild president.
What inspired your manifesto?
The plight of Makerere student has not changed, we have problems we’ve experienced for a good number of years, in terms of security and sanitation e.g. in our halls of residence the toilets are poorly maintained, dilapidated and the water supply is also inadequate. Issues of missing marks are like a song, we have issues of congestion. The other time I got surprised when a friend took me to the Bachelors of commerce external class…They were having lectures in a slum-like church in kikumi kikumi. These are students who pay tuition. They are supposed to be treated like other students when it rains where do these people pass? We don’t need temporary solutions.
