The Makerere University long awaited Guild Presidential results are finally here.
Bazil Mwotta, an independent candidate, has been declared the 82nd Makerere university guild president. He scored 4591 votes followed by Ssemboga Roy with 4276 votes. It has been a tight competition between the two candidates.
The electoral Commission agent, Brian Nassali while in the tally centre took hours before announcing the results.
Campus turned into a town of chaos as rowdy students made a lot of disturbing noise and chattering all the way. Charity Delmus, a student of software engineering said it comes with less shock as the Mwotta manillas made the loudest noise.
The difference of over 300 votes between the doctor (Ssemboga) and the teacher (Mwotta) go into continued chaos with live bullets and teargas as Ssemboga and Mwotta supporters clash.
Analysts told this reporter that Mwotta grabbed the victory from Ssemboga’s mouth at the faculty of education where the guild president elect polled 2,000 votes more than the runner up, Ssemboga. A total of 13,136 students voted. Invalid votes were 387 whereas valid votes totaled to 12,749.
