After the teaching staff vowed to maintain their stance of not entering lecture rooms until their arrears are cleared, the students of the university have today decided to use their usual remedy to demand for their right to Education.
Spearheaded by a delegation from Lumumba, the Makerere students are currently moving around campus collecting their colleagues from different faculties and halls of residence to join them in their campaign of demanding for lecturers.
To prevent any form of violence, by day break the anti riot and red top military were already seen patrolling the university grounds in order to calm any rising riots.
A meeting between the Makerere university council and the student representatives was slated for today morning at 8 a.m amidst the rumours that the university will be closing its doors to students.
The GRCs have vowed to undertake any measures to make sure that the University is not closed under any circumstances.This comes following the impasse in Makerere University at the moment where lecturers, under their umbrella association Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA), have vowed not to step in lecture rooms until their incentives are met, the Guild Legislative body held an impromptu meeting on Monday night to forge a way forward.
