Following one week of vigorous campaigns that had taken the university by storm, the Makerere University Guild Electoral Commission has suspended rallies effective today (Saturday 24th February, 2018) where all roads were supposed to lead to Gayaza based Makerere Agricultural institute – Kabanyolo.
In a communique from the Electoral Commission chairman, Peter Makumbi, the EC suspended all the rallies and other related programs of the commission including Sunday’s much anticipated guild debate. The suspension however doesnt extend to the Prime Time program of Spot-Talk that seeks to unveil candidates’ other life besides the politics to the attending students.
The EC explains that the cause of the suspension is lack of funds from the university to facilitate the process.
Funding of the Electoral Commission comes from the heavy docket of guild fund that every student pays shs. 10,000 to fill.
The university is currently in a financial dilemma with unpaid arrears of evening program lecturers and Living Out Allowances of the government sponsored students.
