The vice chancellor of Makerere University, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, in a letter that Campus Bee has seen reveals that the biggest public university in Uganda will resume studies for final year students on June 20th, 2020.
Following, the president’s directive to have all final year students in universities resume studies as a measure to control social distance at the university, Prof Nawangwe says the university COVID-19 taskforce met and came up with guidelines to ensure safe opening.
He communicated that the semester will run till August 7th and will Include normal classes and sitting for end of semester exams.
Makerere Universiy’s Deans have been tasked to list the telephone numbers of all finalists and indicate what schools were offering online lectures during the COVID-19 lockdown. Those who did not offer online lecturers should also be known, according to an official document from the university.
In a bid to schedule the time table for finalists, Deans have also been tasked to find out how much content finalists need to seal the semester.
As the university prepares to reopen, relevant officials have been tasked to list public health control measures so as to continue preventing Coronavirus. It should be recalled that Museveni closed all education institutions in March as a measure to slow the spread of COVID-19.
“The university is currently studying how much particular courses are behind the syllabus schedule to ensure that they’re able to cover it all in that time.” An insider at the main building told Campus Bee.
