The biggest public university in Uganda, Makerere University, has been closed until further notice, Campus Bee confirms.
In the latest news, Makerere University Vice chancellor, Prof John Ddumba-Ssentamu has made an announcement Thursday evening that the university will not open this Saturday as he had earlier communicated.
“Following the continued industrial action by the non-teaching staff, I would like to inform the public, students and parents, that Makerere has been closed until further notice, and all halls of residence that have been open will also be closed,” Ddumba Ssentamu said, adding the decision has been made by the university council chairman, Dr Wana-Etyem.
Makerere University last week extended its reporting date from 6th August to 13th August due to the continued non-teaching staff strike hindering it’s re-opening.
The university has now been closed till further notice and come this Saturday, no office shall receive freshers.
