Makerere University vice-chancellor has indefinitely suspended three students from the university over what he termed as acts intended to cause anarchy at the university.
The three are Job Dhabona from the School of Psychology, Samuel Kigula from the School of Medicine and Daniel Kituno from the School of Long Distance and Life Long Learning.
The vice chancellor in letters that were copied to each of the suspended students, accused them of taking part in illegal demonstrations and disrupting a Guild Representative Council meeting that was on the 5th of August, in which they “posed” danger to the participants and university property.
“Your said illegal actions are in breach of university policies and national laws which gives rise to both criminal and civil liability on your part. Despite several warnings, you have refused to take heed” the letters read in part.
He further informs the affected students that at a later to be communicated time, they will be invited for discussions on their fate but for the meantime, he directed the chief of security of Makerere University to ensure that they vacate university premises and also open criminal proceedings against them for their “illegal acts”.
The said students were demonstrating the introduction of a 15% increase in tuition at the university which was recommended by their students’ representatives to the university council.
