MAKERERE: Police have fired countless live bullets at Lumumba Hall after the Gonggom Guard Brigade (GGB) attempted to force police constables manning the guild presidential campaigns out of the hall.
Today was going to be Lumumba Hall’s most peaceful rally until police interfered by arresting a one Emmanuel for attempting to control supporters who had violated the rally rules outside the hall.
The GGB couldn’t let him spend even five minutes in the Makerere police station coolers. After rescuing him, they came in high gear ordering all the policemen on the hall premises to leave.
The rally came to a standstill as a scuffle between the GGB, some hall residents and the policemen intensified.
“I entrusted the GGB to take over security during this rally but whatever happens, the IGP, Kale Kayihura will ask me not the GGB. That’s why we arrested the student who had turned violent against some supporters,” Jude Masingano, the police officer manning the MAK guild campaigns explained the arrest.
When the students out powered the police officers, live bullets were shot in the air to restore calm. Most students fled the seen causing a stampede on the hall stairs and at the only open small western gate. Others were seen climbing the fence fleeing for their dear lives.
The situation is now under control with the anti-riot police and the rally has resumed with chants of “we have won”. Campus Bee is on ground and will keep you posted! #MakDecides.
