President Museveni, in a televised address from State House, has ordered the closure of all schools and universities nationwide over the coronavirus pandemic.
The President, whose address was aired on Wednesday 18th March, said the steps have been taken to contain the outbreak of the virus that started in China sometime last month.
He has ordered that all primary, secondary schools and universities close effective immediately.
“We have resolved to close all education institutions; primary & pre-primary secondary and universities for one month starting on Friday at midday. All these institutions should close so that we deny this virus the concentration,” President Museveni said.
The number of students in schools, universities and other tertiary institutions is about 15 million. On top of the closure of the schools and universities, the president has also ordered for a ban of weddings, funerals and other gatherings that hold a big number of people.
