Following a period of acting leadership, Professor Muhwezi Moses has been officially appointed as the Principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), marking a pivotal step for the institution.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni formalized this appointment through an instrument of appointment, citing the Professor’s proven track record in steering MUBS toward stability and reform over his 15-month tenure as acting Principal.
This decision follows considerable advocacy from MUBS staff, who recently urged the government to make Professor Muhwezi’s role permanent. Key representatives from the Makerere University Business Academic Staff Association (MUBASA) and other university bodies highlighted Muhwezi’s significant achievements, including unifying staff, ensuring salary regularization, enhancing institutional governance, and driving impactful reforms.
His tenure as acting Principal has been credited with stabilizing the institution after the retirement of the previous Principal, Professor Wasswa Balunywa.
With a five-year contract now in place, Professor Muhwezi is expected to continue his reform initiatives, focusing on improving staff welfare, modernizing infrastructure, and advancing academic standards.
His leadership is anticipated to play a crucial role in MUBS’s growth as a leading business education institution in Uganda.
