The latest information reaching us indicate that students of Busitema University, Arapai campus went on strike yesterday over administration failures.
Apparently, the striking students accused the University vice Chancellor Prof Mary Okwakol of ignoring their concerns and they claim the entire administration is a mess.
Before destroying property worth millions, the striking students locked their dean and his colleagues out of office to avoid any interference.
The angry students also beat up one of their colleagues identified as David Olinga who reportedly tried reporting their plans to the University VC. Olinga was brutally beaten to pulp but later saved by police that transferred him to Soroti Central Police Station for safety.
Some of the reasons behind this strike are attributed to lack of water at the University which was disconnected by national water weeks ago. They also accuse the university administration of swindling guild fund money, a reason they have not organized guild elections this year.
The striking mob blocked all access roads to the campus, destroyed the sick bay and looted all the drugs and apparatus. They also sealed off the farm and slaughtered a countless number of goats.
