Ruth Ainembabazi, a Senior six vacist eagerly awaiting her UACE results for university admission in August, has been murdered together with her mother, Franscisco Bashaba, allegedly by relatives on the night of January 5, 2023.
The chilling incident unfolded in Nsiika cell, Ntura parish, Mbarara district, and has prompted a thorough investigation by the police in Rwizi region and Mbarara.
Details surrounding the incident reveal that Ruth and her mother visited a relative in Nsiika cell. During the visit, Franscisco received a call from her estranged husband, Musinguzi Deus, aged 55, with whom she was reportedly not on good terms. The call inquired about their whereabouts.
According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, concerns arose when neither Ruth nor her mother were seen until January 6. Residents, alarmed by the prolonged absence, decided to check their residence, only to discover the lifeless bodies of the two victims.
Enanga stated, “Both their heads were smashed with a blunt object,” indicating the brutality of the crime.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, three suspects were swiftly apprehended by the authorities. Deus Musinguzi, the husband, Julius Ainemukama, aged 25, the stepson, and Rosemary Kyohairwe, aged 50, the co-wife, were taken into custody due to existing family disputes and tensions.
“They were the last persons who called the victims prior to their death and were acting in a suspicious manner,” explained Enanga, shedding light on the circumstances leading to the arrests.
