First lady and Minister of Education, Hon Janet Museveni has revealed that the selection process for the in-coming first year students (freshers) at Universities and tertiary institutions will be completed in September.
The Minister however noted that students will have to stay home longer as the Education Ministry draws a clear calendar to push the current first years whose academic year was interrupted by the closure of schools.
The Minster made the remarks during the release of the Ugandan Advanced Certificate of Education before clarifying on the fate of schools reopening. The first lady revealed that cabinet is going to decide on the date of opening schools.
“The date of reporting will be communicated to the public as part of a revised School Calendar once a re-opening date has been agreed upon by Cabinet.”
The first lady further called on students above 18 to get COVID-19 jabs citing it as the condition which will determine how sooner schools can be reopened.
At the same function, state Minister, Dr John Chrysestom Muyingo urged universities to fully embrace online learning as it is the way to go with the prevailing situation
“I strongly believe that universities must embrace online teaching. Much as this move is still a challenge, many universities have embraced it, but they must pay attention to inclusive education. Everybody should be on board” Dr Muyingo said.
