The new Ugandan Budget for 2017/18 has made education among the top three most allocated ministries for the next financial year. Being the third highly allocated sector in this budget, shs2.4 trillion has been planned to cater for the sector among which includes Ugandan government universities and other institutions.
Following various threats of striking at Makerere and Kyambogo Universities over failure to pay lecturers salaries, the government seems to be finally answering the outcries of these elites by giving the education sector more funds come next financial year that kicks off July.
Besides education, 4.6 trillion and 2.6 trillion have been allocated to Works and transport & interest payment due respectively. It should be noted that Kyambogo lecturers held a mini strike early this week after spending months on the verge of striking over five months of no pay.
