Despite the closure of Makerere University for an indefinite period, her affiliate Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has refused to be trampled on, and went ahead to release next semesters’ academic program.
According to a document accessed by Campus Bee, the semester at the Nakawa-based business school will start on Saturday, January 28, 2017 for the hostel students before their counterparts who commute come in on Monday January 30, 2017, for the official commencement of lectures.
The first course work has always been coming as early over the 5th and 6th weekends and the coming next semester will be no exemption. Course works will done on March 4 and 5, then March 11 and 12 respectively.
Then other programs including the guild campaigns will also come in as it will be communicated in the course of the semester before it closes on May 27, 2017. End of year exams will commence on May 8, 2017.
The school registrar however advises both Bachelors and Masters students to check on the teaching timetable for the semester 2016/2017 academic year course units.
Currently, at main campus Makerere, even the first semester hasn’t been ended yet since lecturers went on strike about one and a half months back half, something that triggered President Museveni to shut the university indefinitely.
It should be remembered that MUBS lecturers are still pushing for a breakaway from Makerere University. Recently, lecturers at this business school petitioned the speaker on the same issue. They argue MUBS has reached a level of sustaining itself and there is no reason why they should keep under the influence of the now closed Makerere.
One of the reasons that lecturers rose in the petition is that they want to start holding their own graduation ceremonies. Under the current state of Makerere University, even MUBS students will not be graduating in January because it can not hold its own graduation ceremony.
