The #SaveCarol campaign that kicked off two weeks back to raise funds to treat Carol Atuhirwe who is battling cancer at Mulago hospital has so far raised shs117,837,400 (One Hundred Seventeen Million Shilling, Eight Hundred Thirty Seven Thousand and Four Hundred Shillings Only).
In a bid to catapult the #SaveCarol campaign further, car wash fundraising drive has been scheduled for Saturday, 23rd April at popular hangout spot Panamera Bar and Lounge. The car wash fundraising drive was announced on Tuesday by Muhereza Kyamutetera the Chairman, #SaveCarol Fundraising at Panamera in presence of the media and the mother of Carol Atuhirwe.

Speaking to journalists’ early today, Kyamutetera announced that Saturday will see them hold a car- wash at the local bar and is expected to attract a number of people from celebrities to normal people. “The first of the #SaveCarol car washes will take place this Saturday April 23rd at the Vallet Car wash, at the Panamera Bar & Lounge- starting at 10am- 6pm and its set to cost 50k per car that will be washed”, he pointed after giving a brief history of how the entire committee came to start fundraising.
Carol is set to undergo emergency surgery at University Hospital, Cleveland Ohio, in the United States to treat her cancer condition but also reconstruct her esophagus so she can be able to eat normally and breathe through her nose again.
At the press conference today morning, Kyamutetera also announced that the campaign has sealed at least 44% of the money need to save Carol.
“ I am proud to report that as of this morning- the #SaveCarol Campaign has raised Shs 117,837,400 (One Hundred Seventeen Million Shilling, Eight Hundred Thirty Seven Thousand and Four Hundred Shillings Only) in cash. This is roughly 44% of the required funds”, said an optimistic Kyamutetera.
However he stressed that there was still close to Shs 152,162,600 (One Hundred Fifty Two Million, One Hundred Sixty Two Thousand, Six Hundred Shillings) left to go.
“We thank you all for your generous contributions both in cash and kind and we urge you to keep the contributions coming. The organizers of the car-wash have also received confirmation that some of the key players in the entertainment industry such as Bobi Wine, Coco Finger, Navio, Ruyonga, Nince Henry, Salvador, Pallaso, Afande KereKere, Richard Tuwangye, Nick Nola and Producer Herbert Skills have have confirmed their attendance and will not only entertain but also be participating in the car wash.
Baring a message of appreciation with her, Carol Athuriwe’s mum Mrs Grace Mugizi thanked all those that have generously contributed towards the drive to see her daughter recover from cancer before going ahead to narrate her daughter’s ordeal and read her message.
