Cavendish Floors Makerere, 20 Other Universities in Debate Championship

Cavendish University defeated Makerere University, Kyambogo University and Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) to clinch the 2019 Debate Championship title.

The tournament, with other components of poetry and public speaking competitions was organized by Uganda Dialogue Arena in partnership with Action Aid and Global Platform Uganda and was hosted by Bishop Stuart University  Mbarara.

Anyango Sanifo of International University of East Africa (IUEA) emerged the winner of Poetry while Abenawe Allan of UCU Mukono emerged the winner of the public speaking competition. About 300 students attended the highly billed inter-university intellectual exchange of the year.

The tournament was attended by 22 universities: Ankole Western University, Bishop Stuart University, Busitema University, Cavendish University, Gulu University, Ibanda University and the International University of East Africa.

Others included Islamic University in Uganda, Kabale University, Kampala International University- Western Campus, Kampala International University-Main Campus, Kyambogo University, Lira University and Makerere University.

Also, Makerere University Business School, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Mountains of the Moon University, Muni University, Uganda Christian University, Uganda Pentecostal University, University of Kisubi and University of St Joseph’s Mbarara participated.

The competition was running under the theme “The governance and leadership question in Africa; the role and meaningful participation of young people”.
