Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine has today been nominated as a presidential candidate ahead if the 2021 general elections. BobiWine, who also happens to be a Law student at Cavendish University was expected to launch his manifesto shortly after but has now been brutally arrested by the Uganda Police.
According to Paul Bukenya, the Electoral Commissionspokesperson, they look at the proposed candidate’s education documents (advanced level), the official campaign poster, proof of payment of the UGX 20M nomination fee, proof of date of birth, proof that the candidate consented the nomination, among other requirements.
Bobi Wine, his Wife Barbie Kyagulanyi and the team were spotted waiting patiently for the nomination despite reaching the nomination venue 40 minutes late.
The nomination went down at Kyambogo University’s cricket grounds. On his way to Kyambogo, Bobi Wine was briefly blocked by Police in Nakawa when his supporters tried to escort him to kyambogo, contrary to the guidelines issued by the electoral commission.
The electoral commission is also expected to announce the dates when the presidential elections will be held. The commission has however warned candidates against flaunting the COVID-19 guidelines ahead of heated campaigns.
