Cavendish University Uganda on Friday acquired a new Vice Chancellor – Professor John Francis Mugisha who holds a PhD in Health planning and management – Keele University, England, MSc. in Health Services Management – Uganda Martyrs University and Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences – Makerere University Uganda.

The installation ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor – Cavendish University Uganda – H.E. Benjamin Mkapa, former president of Tanzania who not only holds seven honorary doctorate degrees but also presides over all ceremonial assemblies of the University.

Upon being installed, the Vice Chancellor – Cavendish University Professor. John Francis Mugisha thanked the University Council and sponsors for appointing him into the position and recognized that it comes with much responsibility that requires self-discipline, hard work and continuous learning and improvement.

Mugisha said, ‘Cavendish now offers technology assisted learning where students have both face-to-face learning coupled with technology. This blended learning utilizes free well-researched online study and lecturer or professor guidance which is participatory and engaging. Students will no longer be passive recipients of information but active participants in the search for knowledge, eventually developing into life-long learners.’

Mugisha further added that the private sector and industry are looking for graduates who are ready to work, and should therefore play a part in training this pool. ‘Cavendish University will foster this partnership by organizing internships for students, field study visits, engaging industry practitioners as guest speakers and undertaking applied research to generate solutions to problems faced by theindustry and production sector.’

Mugisha pledged that Cavendish University will support students by promoting learning and thinking through debates, quizzes, poetry and essay thinking and emphasizing training that prepares learners for the work force.
