Bushenyi– In a beautiful event filled with joy, pride, and the promise of a bright future, Valley University of Science and Technology celebrated its 4th graduation ceremony yesterday, 27th January, 2023 honoring the accomplishments of 232 graduates from various disciplines where Prof. Charles Kwesiga, the Executive Director Uganda Industrial Research Institute ( UIRI) was guest of honour.

The ceremony, held at the University grounds, brought together students, staff, families, and distinguished guests to recognize the hard work, dedication, and academic excellence demonstrated by the graduating class.
Best Performing Students
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Enos K. Rwasheema delivered an inspiring commencement address, acknowledging the resilience hard work and discipline of the graduating class. He noted that the public’s expectation is for Valley University of Science and Technology is to build its students’ capacity to respond to her many challenges pertaining to the national vision. He implored the graduates to embrace and apply the technical knowledge and skills assimilated from the University’s evolving interdisciplinary programs; knowledge and skills that will ensure their place in VUST history through making contribution to the embryonic knowledge society. He further explained that the University was in its final stages of acquiring Charter.

“I am happy to inform you, Guest of Honour and distinguished guests that a few days ago, some members of the Council and top management appeared before a panel of NCHE Committee for our Chatter defense and Vetting. Green light is about to be switched on for VUST to get a Charter and join the class and rank of other 11 chartered private Universities in Uganda for International recognition.” Dr. Enos noted

The Vice chairperson of the University Council Mr. Robert Korutaro encouraged graduates to be agents of change, innovation and progress.
“Graduates, as you stand on the cusp of a new beginning, remember the words of Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Your education has equipped you to be agents of change, innovation, and progress. In the journey ahead, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Be bold in your aspirations and relentless in your pursuit of excellence. As you forge your paths, remember to lift others as you climb. Your success is not measured merely by personal achievements but by the positive impact you make on the lives of others.” Mr. Korutaro noted

Sir Richard Kaijuka, Chairperson Board of Trustees appreciated the vision of Mzee William Mukaira who started Valley University of Science and Technology that is now transforming lives and the society.
The Chancellor, Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga congratulated graduates and noted that the students had acquired knowledge and skills to transform their lives and societies
“I am confident that the knowledge and skills you have acquired during your time at Valley University have equipped you to make meaningful contributions to the world. Whether you choose paths in academia, business, or any other field, your unique perspectives and talents will shape the future. Today, we don’t just celebrate your academic achievements; we celebrate the potential within each of you to make a positive impact. Carry the torch of education forward, championing progress, inclusivity, and the pursuit of knowledge. However, it’s essential to remember that success isn’t solely defined by your profession. The character, values, and resilience you’ve developed during your time at this university are equally important. Your education here has equipped you with the tools not only to secure a job but to make a meaningful contribution to society. Don’t rush to the middle East for modern slavery but instead use the acquired knowledge and skills to be self-reliant” Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga noted.
The diverse group of graduates represented different fields including postgraduate studies, education, business, and Science, Innovations & Technology.
On the same function, awards were presented during the ceremony to commend outstanding achievements in academics. The university recognized Nabaasa Nebart with the Academic Excellence Award for achieving the highest GPA of 4.65. Niwebyoona Raphael and Twamuboine Edgar were awarded as best performing students in the faculty of Science, Technology and Innovations and Directorate of postgraduate studies respectively.
The ceremony was not only a time for reflection and celebration but also an opportunity for the graduates to express their gratitude to the faculty, staff, and families who supported them throughout their academic journey. Emotions ran high as graduates shared hugs, laughter, and tears of joy with their loved ones.
It should be noted that Valley University has grown to be one of the best private Universities in Uganda given the quality of education, infrastructure and the conducive spacious study environment.
The 4th graduation ceremony was a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in shaping the leaders, self-reliant citizens and innovators of tomorrow. Congratulations to the VUST Class of 2024.
