The University of Kisubi recently reverberated with jubilation and pride as the institution came together to commemorate the monumental achievement of being granted a Charter. This milestone marks a significant step in the university’s evolution, solidifying its status as a beacon of academic excellence in Uganda. The celebration, filled with joy and gratitude, reflected the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to educational advancement.

The festivities commenced with a solemn Mass led by Msgr. Dr. Lawrence Ssemusu, accompanied by esteemed clergy members, and enhanced by the celestial melodies of the Kisubi University Choir. It was a moment of spiritual reflection and thanksgiving, setting the tone for the exuberant celebrations that followed.

Addressing the gathered community, Br Dr. Deogratias Mugema, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kisubi, expressed profound gratitude for the arduous yet rewarding journey towards obtaining the Charter. He emphasized the significance of this accreditation, highlighting its pivotal role in elevating the university’s academic standing and global recognition. With the Charter, the university is empowered to offer a comprehensive range of academic programs, including doctoral studies, on par with esteemed public institutions.

Acknowledging the instrumental role of key stakeholders, Br Mugema extended heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda, for his visionary leadership and support in liberalizing university education. He also recognized the invaluable guidance provided by the Minister of Education and Sports and the National Council for Higher Education throughout the chartering process.

The celebration was also an opportunity to honor the visionary leaders and pioneers who laid the foundation for the University of Kisubi.

Br Barigye Vincent and his esteemed colleagues, including Brs Yiga Andrew, Mubiru Tibyasa, Aloysius Byaruhanga, and Kasendwa Henry, were lauded for their foresight and determination in initiating the establishment of the university. Their tireless efforts and strategic negotiations with UMU paved the way for the realization of this academic dream.

The contributions of Br Francis Blouin, the first Principal of the university, were also celebrated with gratitude and admiration. His exemplary leadership, wisdom, and dedication played a pivotal role in shaping the institution during its formative years. The American Brothers of Christian Instruction were recognized for their invaluable support and financial assistance, which significantly contributed to the university’s growth and development.

With the attainment of the Charter, the University of Kisubi has entered a new era of academic excellence and responsibility. Br Mugema emphasized the collective responsibility of all stakeholders – trustees, council members, management, staff, and students – to uphold the standards of the chartered institution. As ambassadors of the university, each member of the community is tasked with embracing the elevated status and striving for excellence in all endeavors.

The significance of the Charter was underscored by its alignment with the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act, which establishes guidelines for the establishment, control, management, and administration of universities. The Charter represents a sovereign right bestowed by the head of state, signifying the authority and responsibility entrusted to the university in the pursuit of academic excellence.

In conclusion, the celebration of the Charter at the University of Kisubi was a testament to the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and leadership. As the university embarks on this new chapter, it is poised to make enduring contributions to the advancement of education and the empowerment of future generations. With unity, dedication, and a shared vision, the University of Kisubi stands ready to uphold its newfound status and continue its journey towards greatness.
