Mwesigwa Isaac, a 37 year old Anglican Reverend, UCU student and father of four was arrested and charged with staging his own kidnap and providing false information to a public officer, a one Mr. Ojok Jimmy Alex by the Chief Magistrates’s court on the 21st of February all of which he denied.
The reverend was arrested on the 20th following footage obtained from CCTV cameras showing him majestically parking and exiting his vehicle at Namisigye village in Seeta Mukono and jumping onto a motorcycle without any force therefore contradicting his police statement which stated that he was attacked by gun men on his way to the university having surfaced in Soroti District on three days after his disappearance.
With prosecution led by Joyce Apolot, Rev Mwesigwa went ahead to deny the charges and asked to be released on bail. A request granted to him by Ms Ruth Babasa totaling up-to 1 million shillings allowing him to continue with his alleged treatment at Mengo hospital over acute stress and abdominal pain and in the process, adjourning the hearing to the 2nd of March.
The Reverend was allegedly kidnapped on February 9th 2020 and reported the case at the Counter Terrorism police headquarters in Naguru – Kampala on the 12th of February 2020 all while having been discovered in the outskirts of Soroti district on the same date. It is rumored that the reverend did all this to get out of doing an assignment at the university scheduled to be handed in the next day just after his kidnap.
