A night of fun at Mezo Bar in Kololo turned into chaos after a prominent city businessman was accused of assaulting a socialite in the bar’s washroom.
Paul Ssenyondo, a 34-year-old car bond dealer and resident of Kyanja, found himself in hot water after allegedly attacking Kisha Shamilah Kavuma, a well-known slay queen, in a bizarre toilet brawl.
Ssenyondo appeared before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi at Buganda Road Court, where he was charged with assault, contrary to Section 219 of the Penal Code Act. He denied the charges and applied for bail, citing his stable residence, three sureties, and his responsibility as a father of two school-going children.
However, the prosecution, led by Mr. Allan Mucunguzi, objected to the immediate granting of bail, stating that more time was needed to verify the documents presented. The Chief Magistrate sided with the prosecution and remanded Ssenyondo to Luzira Prison until February 14.
From admiring jeans to blows
According to court documents, the drama unfolded on February 2, 2025, when Kavuma went to the washroom at Mezo Bar for a quick touch-up. There, she noticed Jovia Nansamba Bukanya, a fellow reveller, recording a video of her.
When Kavuma confronted Nansamba about why she was being filmed, Nansamba allegedly responded that she was “admiring her jeans.” Unsatisfied, Kavuma demanded the video be deleted, which Nansamba reportedly did.
Moments later, as Kavuma thought the matter had ended, Nansamba entered the washroom, this time with her boyfriend, Ssenyondo, in tow. That’s when the businessman allegedly launched a brutal attack on Kavuma, leaving her bruised and shaken.
“It is suspected that Nansamba called her boyfriend, who then confronted and assaulted Kavuma. After the ordeal, Kavuma reported the matter to the police, leading to Ssenyondo’s arrest and subsequent remand,” reads part of the court document.
With Valentine’s Day approaching, Ssenyondo will have to swap his romantic dinner plans for a prison cell as he waits for his next day in court. Will he walk free, or will he spend more time behind bars? Kampala waits to see how this slay queen saga unfolds.
