UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The Nile Special University Football League season will close on Saturday with a clash of the giants in Mandela National stadium as Makerere University Business School take on defensively strong Kyambogo University.
Battle of the goalkeepers
While Kizito Jean Mary and Adura Aaron will be crucial in helping their sides win the match at one end, Kyambogo goalkeeper Joseph Etyang and MUBS shot-stopper Masaba Ramathan will be crucial at the other.
Etyang has enjoyed the luxury of a water-tight defence in front of him but he’s produced some crucial saves along the way, notably in the big matches against Kampala University and as well as the semi-final second leg against Nkumba. MUBS’ front line will need something special to get past Etyang.
At the other end, MUBS is gifted in the goal keeping department but we are hoping, savior Ramathan Masaba , will be looking to secure his first championship in the football League and add it to the Beach soccer triumph amongst others to his ever-growing trophy cabinet.
Masaba has not been Ayeiko’s goalkeeper of late in the league, with Eric Dharia taking that honour, but he has been involved in MUBS’ last two league matches to get up-to-speed for Saturday’s final, ensuring match fitness will not be a problem. Masaba has continued to show why he’s rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the University Football League with a string of fine saves this season and more may well be required this weekend.
